"If you want to be the best on the court, you have to strive to be the best in all areas of your life." This quote from Coach Wirth that has been his blueprint for success on and off the court when it comes to building quality basketball programs. He has lead three separate programs to school records in wins and/or win % and Team G.P.A's.
Coach Wirth has been the Varisty Head Coach at Skyline since 2005. He is the winningest coach in Skyline History and has set 14 school records including most wins and highest winning percentage. In five of the past six seasons, the program has been awarded the Academic Achievement Award for a Team Average G.P.A over 3.0.
Prior to arriving at Skyline High School, Coach Wirth led Maricopa High School here in Arizona to school records for wins in a season and highest win %. His 2002-03 squad finished 21-3. Coach Wirth was also named Maricopa Unified School District Teacher of the Year in 2003. In his first head coaching opportunity, Coach Wirth led Armstrong-Ringsted High School in Iowa to more wins in his first year than the previous three years combined along with being recognized with a team G.P.A of 3.0 or higher.
Coach Wirth also is a co-founder of the Arizona Basketball Coaches Association which is the only professional organization for basketball coaches in Arizona and has a mission of promoting what is best about basketball in the state of Arizona. Each year the ABCA brings in the best college coaches in the country for the fall coaches clinic and recognizes the best high school players with the ABCA All-Star games in the spring.
In 2008, Coach Wirth started the 3D Hoops Institute, a youth club program that develops basketball skills and life skills. He also developed the S.W.E.A.T shooting method and authored the basketball training and shot book. He is an active member in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
A native of Iowa, Coach Wirth played on the record-setting University of Minnesota-Morris team that set the school record for wins and was elected to the UMM Hall of Fame. As a player, Coach Wirth was an All-State selection and played on an Iowa Select team that traveled to Europe.
Coach Wirth has Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and currently teaches American History at Skyline High School. He has two young boys, Creighton and Lincoln. Wife, Andrea, played college basketball at Waldorf College and Simpson College.
Dustin Cooper, Associate Head Coach

Coach Cooper has been an integral part of the staff since 2005 arriving from the state of Iowa. Considered by many to be one of the best up and coming coaches in Arizona, Coach Cooper has been instrumental in all facets of the Skyline Basketball Program including player development and was named Associate Head Coach in 2011.
Prior to arriving at Skyline, Coach Cooper was an Assistant coach at Sioux City East that placed 4th at State.
Coach Cooper is the Assistant Executive Director of the Arizona Basketball Coaches Association and has coordinated events such as the ABCA Fall Coaches Clinic and ABCA Jr and Senior All-Star games.
As a player, Coach Cooper had an outstanding career at Morningside College as Captain of the 2004 GPAC Conference Championship Team. He is a member of the 600 pt club at Morningside College and holds numerous Sioux City East High School records including All-time leader in Assists and Steals. He was a two-time All-State selection and was named to the BCI All-American Team in 1998.
Coach Cooper teaches English including Honors English at Skyline High School and is a published writer. Married to Gretchen, they have two beautiful daughters, Cali and Caroline.
Chuck Etzen, Varsity Assistant Coach
Coach Etzen brings over 30 years experience as a coach and educator helping to build one of the most successfull high school programs in the state of Iowa. He coached at Forest City High School with Bob Hilmer who holds the all-time record for most wins in the history of high school basketball in Iowa. He coached 12 conference championship teams and 38 1st team all conference players including multiple Division I athletes. A former college player at Waldorf College and Upper Iowa University, Coach Etzen is a member of the Arizona Basketball Coaches Association.
